Why there is no file size until you press Save
The size column shows a dash until the download starts. XFreeHD keeps one working address per video, so weighing a file first would break your link.
Paste an XFreeHD link and the size column reads a dash. It fills in as the file arrives. Every other tool in this category shows you a number up front, so the empty column looks like something is broken. It is not, and the reason is specific.
Only one address per video is alive at a time
To learn a file's size you have to ask the source for its download address and then ask that address how large the file is. On XFreeHD, asking for an address kills the previous one, permanently. Measured: a killed address answered 403 on all four retries at 1.5-second intervals, while a live one answered correctly all four times.
So a page that showed you both sizes up front would have to mint two addresses — and whichever it minted first would already be dead by the time you clicked it. You would see a tidy table with one button that silently fails.
That is not a hypothetical. It is what an earlier version of this tool did, and it presented as a flaky size reading rather than as what it was: a dead link waiting to happen.
What the dash actually means
The dash means nothing has been measured yet, and this site does not print numbers it has not measured. When you choose a quality, an address is minted at that moment and the file starts moving; the size appears with it.
Rough sizes, if you need to plan
These were measured across sample videos and depend entirely on length:
